Pages in a Book
by Carole Addis, 5th Grade Teacher, Lowell Schooldownload-1

I am the pages in a book.
Heavy machine type, type
on my pages with loud, smashing
sounds that make me shut my book
eyes and ears, but my pages don’t
tear because I am tough.

But I shake and shiver when
dirty hands jerk open my covers
oatmeal breath gets on my words
and big alarming eyes swipe over
my pages. I try to close my pages
in fear.

But then, the eyes slow and start
to carefully look at my words;
the oatmeal breath is replaced
by a smile, and sometimes a laugh
and sometimes a gasp.

I nod my head. Finally,
my story becomes magic
and Harry Potter
plays Quiddich once more.
