Poetry Projects
The Missoula Writing Collaborative works with schools, educators, businesses, organizations, community members, and students to integrate poetry into our schools and communities in creative ways. Below are details of some of our efforts, past and ongoing, to spread the joy of creative writing across western Montana.
Ledger Art
Since 2019, the Missoula Writing Collaborative has worked together with Salish storyteller Aspen Decker to bring Indigenous storytelling, Plains sign language, and ledger art creations into elementary and middle schools in Dixon, Arlee, Saint Ignatius, Ronan, and Pablo.
Poetry Month
Every year in April, MWC celebrates National Poetry Month in a variety of creative ways – often including (but not limited to) readings, art exhibits, film showings, and even poetry-inspired ice cream.
Ballet Beyond Borders
MWC collaborates with Ballet Beyond Borders to give students in Missoula and on the CSKT reservation the opportunity to translate the performances of professional international dancers into poetry.
