Words With Wings Half Day Camp: Each morning our summer camp meets on the University of Montana campus to write, share and play with words. Students have the opportunity to work closely with Missoula Writing Collaborative instructors and write a wide variety of poems. We’ll visit the Montana Museum of Art and Culture to write ekphrastic poetry, take our notebooks outside to write around campus, and have lots of time to explore the world of words together. Our week will culminate with a Friday reading on campus.
Words with Wings Full Day Camp: Students have a chance to build on their morning experience. We’ll explore the Missoula community and its varied ecosystems by foot and bus to give developing writers the opportunity to observe and write about the world around them. This year will include visits to:
- Historic Fort Missoula
- The kitchens at Caffe Dolce for pasta making and gelato
- The Clark Fork River with the Watershed Education Network
- Turning the Wheel Missoula who will show us how to turn movement into poetry
Rattlesnake Writing Workshop: High school students will have the opportunity to work with published writer Caroline Patterson to write flash fiction and poetry, or local musician Caroline Keys of the Best Westerns to write songs. This camp is for anyone with a passion or interest in writing, whether you are just starting or have been penning stories for years. Each day you’ll write, read, and revise your writing. On Wednesday, the two groups will take a day on the town to look for inspiration at coffee shops and the art museum and to share work on KGFM radio.
